New England Chapter No. 8 NAWCCMiscellaneous ActivitiesA core group of Chapter 8 members volunteers weekly at the Charles River Museum of Industry and Innovation (CRMII) in Waltham, MA. This group set up and maintains the Waltham Watch Company exhibit. This includes not only watches, but watch manufacturing machinery and related horological items. The group has restored many pieces in the collection and, also, act as docents. A long-time chapter member, Joe Brown, has just completed a compilation of production and descriptive data of all 172,496 watches that were manufactured at the Waltham Watch Company factory in Waltham, MA during the period of July1857 to December 1865. This end date marks the beginning of industrialized watch-making. These data, largely statistical in nature, are compiled by watch plate configuration and size in consecutive serial number order. A copy of the data is in the CRMII library (Joe is a trustee emeritus of the museum) at this time, and will be available at the NAWCC library in the future. Recently-elected Chapter 8 president, Peter Nunes, has recently become Chairman of the Cog Counters, a horological group involved in early American clockmaking with a focus on wooden works movements. The group is independent of the NAWCC, but usually meets at different NAWCC regionals as well as at the National conventions. A weblink to the Cog Counters can be found at the NWACC website. Starting in 2008, a number of chapter presentations have been digitally recorded and are now available as DVDs at the National library. -- Les Tyrala Chapter Contacts: 2011 President, Peter Nunes 2011 1st Vice Pres., Joe Seremeth 2011 2nd Vice Pres., Harold Lincoln 2011 Treasurer, Wayne Paskerian 2011 Secretary, Lester Tyrala 2011 Past President, Larry Chelmow 2011 Membership, Steve Chatlas 2011 Director, Burton Kassap 2011 Director, Dave Deutermann 2011 Director Joe Brown 2011 Director Martin Cohen 2011 Director Victor Kozakevich |
